Usman Lade, the Commissioner for Water Resources, revealed this during an impromptu inspection visit to the Asa-Dam Area in Ilorin. In a statement released by the Assistant Press Secretary of the ministry, Adewoye Oluwatosin, the Commissioner specifically cautioned residents of Asa-Dam, Marina, and Lasvager Estates against engaging in any illegal construction near the Asa-Dam River, Marina Estate, and their environs.

Lade emphasized that constructing houses or any structures in close proximity to the Dam and Asa River presents significant risks to people’s lives. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, issued a stern warning, emphasizing that the state government will not take the matter lightly, especially considering the serious threat it poses to human lives.

During the inspection, Engr. Yusuf Wopa, the Director of Engineering Water Resources services, highlighted the importance of maintaining a standard distance between the river and any building construction along Asa-Dam, even if the land has been legally acquired.

Afolayan Timothy, the Deputy Surveyor General of Geographic Information Services, stated that an investigation will be conducted to verify the approval status of buildings allegedly constructed illegally on government property. If it is confirmed that these lands were not approved by government-authorized officers, necessary actions will be taken to evict the occupants from the land.
