Lady Shares How Cousin’s Boyfriend Reacted After She Received Expensive Wig From Another Person

A Nigerian woman identified as @tessysmitha on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked widespread reactions after narrating how her cousin was allegedly blocked by her boyfriend following a disagreement involving a ₦500,000 wig.

According to the woman, her cousin had requested financial assistance from her boyfriend to purchase the expensive wig. However, the man reportedly explained that he could not afford the request because he was financially committed to a project he was handling.

The cousin eventually acquired the wig and shared pictures of it on social media, accompanying the post with the caption, “If he wanted to, he would.”

However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn when her boyfriend saw the post and subsequently blocked her.

Reacting to the development, @tessysmitha argued that individuals were entitled to have financial priorities and limitations but should not dictate what others could afford to do for their partners.

She maintained that a person’s inability or unwillingness to purchase a particular item should not become a reason to resent their partner for receiving the same gift from someone else.

The X user wrote that financial limitations should be respected, adding that nobody should feel entitled to control how another person chooses to support their partner.

Her post has since generated mixed reactions, with social media users expressing different opinions about the boyfriend’s decision, the expensive gift and the message behind the woman’s caption.

While some users questioned the circumstances surrounding the ₦500,000 wig and whether the gift came without expectations, others criticised what they considered misplaced financial priorities.

One user, Kelvin, dismissed the story as an attempt to provoke reactions, while Dorcas Sandy questioned whether someone would genuinely spend such an amount on a wig without expecting anything in return.

Another commenter, Dennis Chrisy, described spending ₦500,000 on a wig without having the money to purchase it independently as a misplaced priority.

Similarly, Aura Dinoh expressed support for the boyfriend’s decision to block his girlfriend, sarcastically offering to contribute more cement to ensure the man maintained the block.

The incident has reignited conversations online about financial expectations in relationships, gift-giving, personal boundaries and the pressure some partners face when comparing what they receive with what others can afford.
