Okubadejo, accompanied by other state commissioners, asserted that the government aims to surpass the implementation of the 2023 budget in the coming fiscal year. The focal point for 2024 will be the provision of infrastructure at various economic development clusters. The extension of the Lagos Blue Rail Line Project into Agbara and the enhancement of the Lagos Red Rail Line Project to Ijoko and Ifo/Kajola are integral components of the state’s multi-modal transport plan, aligned with the Lagos-Ogun Joint Development Commission initiative.

The 2024 budget, titled “The Budget of Sustained Growth and Development,” is set at N703.03 billion, with N287.37 billion allocated for recurrent expenditures and N415.66 billion for capital expenditures. Personnel costs will amount to N95.05 billion, consolidated revenue to N27.35 billion, and N59.09 billion will be designated for public debt charges.

Okubadejo highlighted the administration’s strategic approach to address economic challenges, including inflation, insecurity, and infrastructure deficits. The government aims to capitalize on the state’s comparative advantage, focusing on reducing bottlenecks in production costs through efficient logistics and innovation hubs. The overarching objective is to position the state as the most economically viable, leveraging its status as home to the highest number of public and private institutions.

Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, attributed the state’s improved yearly budget performance to visionary leadership and Governor Dapo Abiodun’s support. He emphasized the strategic management of debts for survival and development, with a commitment to achieving global benchmarks in various sectors.

In addition, the State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, highlighted collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works to reconstruct the Sango-Owode-Idiroko road and Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta road. Akinsanya assured the completion of ongoing road projects across the state, including the Gateway International Airport road, Ilaro-Owode road, Atan-Lusada-Agbara road, Ijoko-Agbado-Akute-Alagbole road, and community roads in all 20 local government areas.
