Among those affected are two Superintendents of Police demoted to Deputy Superintendent, one Deputy Superintendent reduced to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents now serving as Inspectors.

The PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, revealed these actions in a statement issued to journalists on Monday, January 13, 2025. The statement highlighted these developments as part of the final stages of the Commission’s second Plenary Meeting held at its Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

Furthermore, the Commission imposed severe reprimands on ten senior police officers found guilty of unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and unbecoming conduct. Nine senior officers received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was acquitted, and an Assistant Superintendent received a warning letter.

The Commission has also made significant progress in addressing Police Promotions, promoting several senior officers to higher ranks. Notably, eleven Commissioners of Police have been elevated to Assistant Inspectors General of Police, 16 Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners, 21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, 57 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners, and 1,348 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents.

Among the promoted officers are Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, former Commander of the Anti-Narcotics section at the FCT Command, now posted to the Kaduna Command, and Milicent Amadi, Officer in Charge of Surveillance at the State CID in Ebonyi State Command.

DIG Hashimu Argungu, Chairman of the Commission, emphasized the importance of discipline among Nigeria’s Police Officers to ensure they effectively fulfill their constitutional duties of law enforcement and protection of lives and property. He also underscored the Commission’s commitment to resolving Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) to avoid stagnation among Police Officers.

These decisions have been officially communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation, as stated in a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Onyemuche Nnamani.
