Ajulo, addressing journalists in Abuja on Saturday, emphasized the need for transparency within an agency tasked with combating corruption. He recommended the creation of a presidential task force with the specific mandate of identifying and eliminating corrupt elements within the EFCC, thereby ensuring the agency’s effectiveness in fulfilling its objectives.
Furthermore, Ajulo suggested that President Tinubu consider merging the EFCC with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). He expressed concern over recent developments indicating a deviation from the EFCC’s primary functions, accusing the agency of engaging in political posturing and prioritizing high-profile cases over its core responsibilities.
Highlighting the importance of reassessing the EFCC’s mandate and operations, Ajulo called for collaboration between the EFCC’s leadership, relevant government bodies, National Security Adviser, Minister of Defence, civil society organizations, legal experts, and the media. He stressed the necessity of restoring public trust, enhancing transparency, and reinforcing the agency’s capacity to effectively combat economic and financial crimes.
