LP Accuses APC Of Plotting To Rig Ogun LG Elections For Their CandidatesThe Labour Party (LP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State of planning to rig the upcoming local government elections in favor of its candidates. Scheduled for November 16, the Ogun State local government elections have prompted the LP to urge the State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that every vote is accurately counted.
During a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Abeokuta, state party chairman Lookman Jagun asserted that if the ruling party were not plotting to rig the elections, Governor Dapo Abiodun would not be so confidently claiming a 100 percent victory for the APC.
Jagun criticized the APC’s governance, saying, “What is the APC scorecard? They have brought hunger, misery, and poverty to the people. Basic food prices have skyrocketed, making it difficult for families to eat adequately.”
He noted that some families struggle to afford two meals a day and that parents often go without food to feed their children. “Their scorecard is an F9! They plan to rig the election, but we will resist this with the support of the impoverished people of Ogun State.”
Jagun called on Governor Abiodun and OGSIEC Chairman Babatunde Osibodu to ensure that the voices of the electorate are respected in the upcoming elections. He also revealed that out of the party’s 20 chairmanship candidates, six had withdrawn due to concerns over the government’s commitment to a fair electoral process. The LP will still field 14 chairmanship candidates and 106 councilorship candidates in the elections.
He encouraged citizens to reject the hardships caused by the ruling party and vote for the Labour Party, which promises a new approach to governance focusing on infrastructure development, agricultural reform, access to primary healthcare, and greater transparency.
In response, Tunde Oladunjoye, the APC’s state publicity secretary, dismissed the LP’s claims as baseless and absurd. “It’s a laughable comment. Let them present their scorecard, if they have one, that can stand against the APC’s achievements,” he stated.
