Makinde made these remarks during a three-day leadership retreat for political appointees, which included members of the state executive council, special advisers, executive assistants, and agency/parastatal chairpersons, among others. The retreat was held at the Conference Centre of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan.

He stressed the importance of effective collaboration among all stakeholders across various government ministries, departments, and agencies, emphasizing that this was the only means by which the government could successfully implement policies and programs with a lasting positive impact on the populace.

In his opening declaration, the governor posed several questions: “Why are we convening an executive retreat for the Oyo State government? Is it to distance ourselves from the issues in town, considering we are here at IITA, a diplomatic environment? What should be the anticipated outcomes of this retreat? What will you have gained by the end of these two and a half days?”

Addressing these questions, he aimed to set the tone for the event and guide facilitators and speakers in structuring their presentations. He stressed the necessity of establishing clear goals and objectives for every project.
