According to an eyewitness cited by Channels Television, the gunfire resulted in the deaths of a soldier and one of the attackers, creating fear and concern among local residents, motorists, and travelers. The incident caused significant delays for commuters, who had to wait several hours until the situation was brought under control.

The Public Relations Officer of the Ebonyi State Police Command, DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he had not received detailed information about the incident from the Owutu Police Division at the time of the report.

Two days prior, gunmen suspected to be affiliated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) carried out a series of attacks in Owerri, the Imo state capital. Areas such as Ikenegbu, the Imo State University (IMSU) back gate, Wetheral Road, Amawusa, and the Toronto axis experienced sporadic gunfire, causing panic among residents.

Imo State Police Command Spokesperson Henry Okoye reported that the gunmen used a “guerilla-style strategy,” launching surprise attacks before retreating to their hideouts. Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma has initiated a crackdown on the attackers and urged residents to report any suspicious activities to the police.
