Former military president, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), has unveiled the results of Nigeria’s 1993 presidential election, three decades after its controversial annulment.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The election, widely regarded as Nigeria’s freest and fairest, was halted by IBB’s military regime before the electoral commission could officially declare a winner.

However, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, IBB finally admitted in his newly launched autobiography, A Journey in Service, that the late Chief Moshood Abiola was the rightful winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.

During the book review, conducted by former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Babangida revealed that Abiola, who contested under the Social Democratic Party (SDP), secured both the highest number of votes and the required geographical spread to become president. He defeated Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention (NRC).

IBB also justified the election’s annulment, claiming it was done in the “national interest” to ensure Nigeria’s stability.

Further details from the autobiography confirm that Abiola won in 20 out of the 31 states (including the FCT) where elections were conducted.

Below is a snippet of the official results as documented in IBB’s book:

Abuja (FCT)
Tofa: 18,313
Abiola: 19,968
