Speaker Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced the passage during yesterday’s plenary session, commending Hon. Hajarat Danyaro for sponsoring the Bill and emphasizing its potential to significantly enhance the hygiene and overall health of schoolgirls.
“This legislation will now be referred to the House Committee on Health, Education, and Women Affairs, with the exclusion of the Committee Chairman on Women Affairs,” Jatau stated.
He added, “The committees are tasked with reviewing the bill and submitting their report by August 6, 2024.”
Hon. Hajarat Danyaro Ibrahim, Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and representative of Nasarawa Central constituency, highlighted the Bill’s critical role in preventing cervical cancer and improving hygiene among female students, addressing concerns such as menstrual health.
Support for the Bill was voiced by Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa, Hon. Daniel Ogazi, Hon. Mohammed Omadefu, Hon. Yusuf Chunbaya, and Rt. Hon. Muhammad Oyanki, all underscoring its potential to uplift educational standards for girls and reduce stigma associated with menstruation.
