Dr. Solomon Arase (IGP Rtd), the Chairman of the Commission, addressed PSC staff at a pre-deployment briefing, emphasizing that this recruitment is not merely an exercise but a significant chapter in the Commission’s history. He stressed the importance of every decision and interaction, shaping the perception of the Commission and leaving a lasting legacy.
Arase urged the staff to uphold professionalism and integrity, recognizing the weight of their responsibility for the nation’s aspirations for a just and secure future. He highlighted the historic nature of this recruitment, being the first conducted by the Commission since the landmark Supreme Court Judgment of July 20th, 2023, reaffirming the Commission’s primacy in recruiting for the Nigeria Police Force.
The Chairman reminded the staff that the nation’s scrutiny awaits their every move, demanding unwavering dedication to the principles of fairness and justice. He called for the highest standards of discipline, integrity, and honesty during the exercise.
Arase declared the recruitment as a defense of the sanctity of the Commission’s mandate and a demonstration of its competence. Anticipating challenges with over 400,000 applicants, he emphasized the staff’s role as guardians of a process with inherent significance, paving the way for the forthcoming 30,000-man recruitment approved by the current administration.
To enhance efficiency and transparency, a Situation Room will be established at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi Abuja. This dedicated space will function as a Complaint Response Centre, a help desk, and an information repository, providing support to field personnel. The Commission will communicate dedicated telephone lines to the public for accessing the Situation Room.
Arase warned of severe consequences for staff involved in questionable activities, especially soliciting or collecting money from applicants or their families. Such actions, contrary to integrity and fairness principles, may lead to disciplinary measures, including possible termination of employment.
Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Chairman of the Police Recruitment Board, and Dr. Ifeoma Adaora Anyanwutaku, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Commission, presented goodwill messages at the briefing. The Director of the Department of Police Recruitment, Mr. Ferdinand Ekpe, administered a code of conduct to all staff involved in the exercise, emphasizing the Commission’s commitment to adhering to standards throughout the recruitment process.
