Born in Kaduna and hailing from Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, Balogun’s journey with the NCS began in 2002, when she was recruited as a Customs Assistant. Initially serving as a cabin crew member in the Service’s Airwing Unit, she charted an inspiring path from flight attendant to licensed pilot, thanks to her unwavering determination and the support of the NCS.
In a recent interview, DSC Balogun shared the challenges she faced in pursuing her dream, noting that while many of her colleagues opted for higher-paying airline jobs, she remained committed to public service and her ambition of becoming a pilot.
“I chose to stay in the Service despite the temptation of more lucrative airline jobs. My determination to serve and become a pilot kept me going,” she said.
Balogun’s educational background includes an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services, a Master’s in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University, and pilot certification from the Flying Academy in Miami, Florida, with the NCS sponsoring her training.
Reflecting on her pioneering achievement, Balogun expressed that her role as the first female pilot in the NCS is not just a personal milestone but also an inspiration for other women, both within and outside the Service, to pursue their dreams.
“As the first female pilot in the NCS, I hope to inspire others, especially women, to chase their dreams and break through barriers,” she said.
Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, lauded Balogun’s accomplishment, recognizing it as a reflection of the NCS’s commitment to building capacity and fostering innovation.
“Her story is an example of what can be achieved with determination and institutional support,” he said.
Balogun continues to fly for the NCS, eager to inspire the next generation of Nigerians, particularly women, to pursue careers in aviation and public service.
