In Africa, nearly all airlines are either sponsored, supported, or subsidized by their respective governments—whether it’s RwandAir, South African Airways, EgyptAir, or Royal Air Maroc. However, Nigeria stands out as the only country with a fully private-driven aviation sector. It’s an entirely different scenario, requiring unique policies and approaches. Comparing Nigeria to other African nations is misleading because their airlines are government-backed, while ours rely solely on private investment.
“That’s why it’s crucial for the Nigerian government to focus on local airline operators who sustain our aviation sector and keep our skies active. Currently, we have 13 private airlines operating domestically, regionally, and even on some international routes. Supporting their growth and development is a deliberate policy decision,” he stated.
The former Minister of Labour and Employment under President Muhammadu Buhari reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to implementing policies that will strengthen and support Nigeria’s airline operators.
