The society’s president, Professor Musa Babashani, noted that the annual gathering remains a crucial platform for evaluating emerging innovations and aligning local strategies with international developments. He expressed concern that Nigeria continues to lag in deploying advanced tools for diagnosis, treatment, and patient outreach. Babashani stressed that this year’s focus on digital solutions is designed to encourage collaboration, widen knowledge-sharing, and highlight the growing relevance of telemedicine in lung health.
According to professional briefings at the meeting, expanding telemedicine services is essential for extending preventive information and early-stage respiratory care to underserved and remote communities.
Representing the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, senior official Dr. David Atuwo commended the society’s contributions to research, training, and service delivery in respiratory medicine. He said the conference theme aligns with the national agenda advocating technology-driven innovation and inclusive development. Atuwo added that the society’s work continues to support health policy dialogue and strengthen the integration of education, science, and healthcare.
Guest speaker Dr. Ayodele Renner, a consultant paediatrician and digital content advocate, emphasised the critical role of technology in public enlightenment and community engagement. He underscored the need for accurate, accessible information to drive disease prevention and improve population well-being.
