Bassey has been a target for both Fulham and Brighton since June, despite having four years remaining on his current contract with Ajax. The Nigerian defender is now poised to become a Fulham player in the coming days.
Before his move to Ajax last summer, Bassey made 65 appearances for Rangers over two seasons, contributing to their Scottish Cup and league championship victories in 2021. Since joining Ajax, he has made 39 appearances, registering one goal and five assists.
Amidst the ongoing speculations about Bassey’s departure, Ajax coach Maurice Steijn openly advised the player to leave the club, citing financial reasons and the potential to strengthen the squad further if Bassey departs.
