“On this solemn occasion, we pay tribute to the lives lost. I honor the dedicated individuals who were working towards peace and development within the walls of the UN building,” she stated.

“We stand united today, resolved to establish a world where the ideals of peace, justice, and cooperation, embodied by the United Nations, become a tangible reality for all.”

The poignant ceremony also featured the participation of Undersecretary General of the UN’s Office of Counterterrorism, Valdimir Voronkov, who echoed the importance of uniting in solidarity and providing support to victims of terrorism worldwide.

The continuous threat of terrorism, he lamented, undermines global peace and security, leaving in its wake a trail of countless victims and survivors.

“The Federal Republic of Nigeria is acutely aware of the consequences of terrorism within and beyond its borders. Africa, in particular, has borne the brunt of terrorism’s impact for many years,” Voronkov observed.

He further reminded of the United Nations’ own vulnerability to terrorism, recalling the 20th anniversary of the tragic attack on the Canal Hotel in Baghdad, Iraq, on August 19, 2003.

This poignant yet concise ceremony saw the attendance of heads from various United Nations Agencies in Nigeria.
