The NNPP asserts that Kwankwaso allegedly facilitated a deal with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to secure a ministerial appointment in President Bola Tinubu’s government.
Following the tribunal’s verdict on Wednesday, which removed Abba and declared the APC candidate Nasir Gawuna as the winner of the March 18 governorship election, the NNPP emphasized that Kwankwaso’s actions resulted in the party’s defeat.
One of the NNPP Chieftains in the Southwest, Alhaji Abass Akande Onilewura, expressed these sentiments in a statement released to the media on Thursday.
He maintained that Kwankwaso’s alleged involvement in activities contrary to the party’s interests led to the significant loss in Kano as ruled by the tribunal.
Onilewura asserted that Kwankwaso did not adhere to proper procedures when selecting some of the party’s gubernatorial candidates, which subsequently led to the nomination of unpopular or unacceptable candidates.
He lamented that the loss was a consequence of Kwankwaso’s purported sale of the party to the highest bidder, emphasizing that due process and fair candidate selection were disregarded.
The NNPP Chieftain revealed that investigations indicated that Kwankwaso’s ongoing engagement with the APC had exposed vulnerabilities that were later exploited against the Kano governor to secure the opposition’s victory.
Onilewura concluded by cautioning Kwankwaso to refrain from interfering with the NNPP, expressing the party’s determination to protect itself from individuals primarily motivated by personal gain.
He assured NNPP members nationwide that a new leadership had taken over the party and pledged efforts to restore its prominence as a formidable voice for justice, equity, and good governance.
