Justice IPC Igwe granted the order in response to a motion filed by Ehie, naming the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Director-General of the DSS, the state Director of DSS, and the Police Service Commission (PSC) as defendants.
The court’s ruling prohibits the defendants or their representatives from inviting, arresting, or detaining Ehie in relation to the alleged arson incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly on March 29, 2023. The order follows statements made on or around March 27, 2025, by the former Head of Service of Rivers State, George Nwaeke, or any other person.
Justice Igwe also instructed that the writ and related processes be treated as a concurrent writ for service outside the jurisdiction, specifically to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Furthermore, the court ordered all involved parties to maintain the status quo as of March 30, 2025, until the motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction is resolved. Ehie was also mandated to provide a ₦2 million indemnity bond as a guarantee to compensate the defendants if the motion proves frivolous.
The judge adjourned the case to April 30, 2025, for further deliberation on the motion on notice for the interlocutory injunction. This ruling serves as a temporary legal relief for Ehie as the case progresses.
