No University For Adamawa! Tinubu Rejects Education Bill, Gives Reasons

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declined assent to the bill proposing the establishment of the Federal University of Education in Numan, Adamawa State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, and read by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu during Tuesday’s plenary, Tinubu outlined key reasons for withholding approval.
A major concern was Section 22 of the bill, which grants the state governor, rather than the President, authority over land disposal—contradicting federal laws governing such institutions. Additionally, Tinubu flagged an oversight in Section 25(b), where the bill failed to clearly specify the institution’s authority to award degrees.
The bill, initially passed by the House last year, will likely undergo revisions before reconsideration.
Clarifying the situation at a stakeholders’ forum in Mayo-Belwa, Adamawa, Senator Binos Yaroe stated that Tinubu had not outrightly rejected the bill but highlighted errors requiring correction, particularly the improper assignment of land authority to the governor instead of the President.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives adjourned plenary until Wednesday, February 5, 2025, in honor of the late Deputy Whip, Adewunmi Onanuga, who passed away on January 15 at the age of 59.
