NYSC spokesperson, Mr. Eddy Megwa, revealed in a statement on Monday, February 5, 2024, that the rescued individual was a female prospective corps member, and the bus driver was also safely recovered. This development brings the total number of released Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) to five, leaving three (one female and two males) still in captivity.

Megwa emphasized the ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining three individuals, expressing gratitude for the combined efforts of the National Youth Service Corps and the military. The statement highlighted the continuous collaboration that led to the latest release, without specifying whether a ransom was paid.

“The combined efforts of the National Youth Service Corps and the military have witnessed the further release of another female Prospective Corps member, including the driver of the bus kidnapped in Zamfara State on their way to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sokoto State last year,” the statement reads.

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, conveyed appreciation to the security agents for their relentless efforts, emphasizing the commitment of the scheme to uphold the welfare of Corps members under all circumstances. However, the statement did not provide details regarding any ransom payment for the recent release.
