Speculation about Obi’s political future has increased following the recent Supreme Court ruling on the ADC leadership dispute. Although neither Obi nor his associates have confirmed the reports, some political analysts believe he may be considering a move to the NDC.

In a post on his account on Saturday, Ahmad suggested that the alleged plan, if true, could indicate an attempt by Obi to avoid internal party competition.

He wrote, “Reports and indications suggest that Peter Obi and his supporters are considering another political shift from their current platform, the ADC.”

He further questioned whether such a move would be aimed at avoiding a contest within the party, referencing Obi’s previous political journey leading up to the 2023 presidential election.

Ahmad maintained that party primaries are a crucial test of democracy and leadership strength, arguing that any politician unwilling to face internal competition raises doubts about their readiness for national leadership.

According to him, “A politician who appears unwilling to test his popularity within his party naturally raises concerns about how he intends to build national consensus in a country as diverse as Nigeria.”

He added that internal party elections remain a core element of democratic practice, stressing that leaders must be able to compete fairly within their platforms before seeking national office.

Ahmad concluded that difficulty in navigating party-level contests could reflect challenges in managing broader national responsibilities involving multiple interests and political actors.
