He also revealed that his non-governmental organization, the Olowu Hope Initiative, will be launched on Saturday. This initiative is set to provide daily meals for 1,000 schoolchildren across three primary schools in Abeokuta.
Matemilola highlighted the organization’s additional focus areas, which include offering microcredit support to women and providing healthcare insurance for at least 1,000 individuals by year’s end, among other initiatives. He shared this information while addressing journalists during the Odun Omo Olowu 2024 festival, which began on Monday.
The festival, themed “Growth and Advancement,” is a significant event for the Owu community. The monarch emphasized the importance of supporting government efforts to tackle food production challenges while creating job opportunities and encouraging agricultural entrepreneurship.
“This agricultural enterprise will operate as a cooperative,” he explained. “It will have sections for various farming activities, including poultry, pig farming, fisheries, and crop production.”
Matemilola added that the estate will provide tractors, irrigation services, and other essential inputs, all managed to high standards with appropriate regulations in place. The estate aims to guarantee the quality of its produce and plans to allocate at least three hectares for the project, with discussions ongoing for government collaboration.
Regarding the meal initiative for 1,000 students, the selected schools include Abeokuta North Local Government Primary School and Ansarudeen Primary School 1 and 2, with plans to expand to 3,000 students within two to three years.
These efforts aim to enhance the well-being of the community, transcending language and tribal differences, while contributing to national development.
The Odun Omo Olowu festival also celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Owu people, fostering unity and collaboration for the kingdom’s development. Highlights include free medical services for over a thousand people, cultural performances, and the conferral of chieftaincy titles, culminating in a grand finale scheduled for Saturday. Dignitaries expected at the event include former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Olaoye Ghandi.
