In an interview with New Telegraph, George described the move as a “democratic Armageddon” and cautioned that the nation must tread carefully. He asserted that President Tinubu’s actions indicate an attempt to seize control of Rivers State.

According to George, the crisis in Rivers State stems from a conflict between members of the state House of Assembly and the governor. He noted that after the Supreme Court’s ruling, the governor urged calm and expressed willingness to comply with the court’s directives.

George questioned the justification for the emergency declaration, emphasizing that there was no widespread violence in the state. He argued that due process was not followed, as the president did not secure parliamentary approval before issuing the emergency order.

The PDP chieftain also drew parallels with the 1962 Western Region crisis, recalling how Chief Obafemi Awolowo had questioned the justification for emergency rule, stating that it should only be declared in the event of widespread violence.

He also criticized the president for not properly consulting the parliament before issuing the order and warned that the situation could lead to further political instability. George urged President Tinubu to exercise caution, emphasizing that the repercussions of the decision might be far-reaching.
