Oshiomhole Unveils Why Esan Must Reject PDP’s “Stranger” Candidate, Asue IghodaloIn a thunderous rally held in the heart of Esan Central at Okpoji, former Governor Adams Oshiomhole delivered a fiery message to the people of Esan land, urging them to reject the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Asue Ighodalo. Oshiomhole, a towering figure in Edo politics and the undisputed leader of the APC in the state, didn’t hold back in his endorsement of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s gubernatorial candidate. “I remember every road, every school we built in Ugbegu and Okpoji,” Oshiomhole passionately recalled. “Monday Okpebholo is one of us—he doesn’t need a translator to feel the pulse of the Esan people. He lives and breathes Esan land.”
In a scathing attack, Oshiomhole portrayed Ighodalo as a disconnected figure, someone who “fears his own people, doesn’t speak their language, and can’t even find comfort sleeping in Esan land.” The former governor didn’t stop there, questioning Ighodalo’s contributions as the chairman of Nigerian Breweries and the head of Sterling Bank’s economic team. “What has he done for Esan land? For Edo State?” Oshiomhole asked, casting doubt on Ighodalo’s commitment to his roots.
Adding a dramatic twist to the rally, the leader of the Labour Party in Okpoji made a surprising announcement—his decision, along with his followers, to defect to the APC. He cited Senator Okpebholo’s unwavering dedication and tangible efforts to uplift Esan land, even before assuming office as a senator. “This is a man who doesn’t just talk; he acts. He’s been a pillar in our community long before politics,” the former Labour Party leader declared.
The rally in Okpoji wasn’t just a political gathering; it was a powerful declaration of Esan identity and pride, as the community rallied behind a leader they truly believe in. With Oshiomhole’s passionate appeal and the defection of Labour Party leaders, the momentum seems firmly on the side of the APC, signaling a turning point in the battle for Edo’s future.
