Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has explained that his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu was mainly to appreciate the President for allowing the democratic process to prevail during the state’s recently concluded governorship election.

Adeleke secured re-election on August 15 after receiving 511,067 votes, defeating his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.

The governor won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji emerged victorious in the remaining 11 councils.

Days after the election and his receipt of the Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke met with Tinubu behind closed doors at the State House on Thursday.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, Adeleke said Tinubu’s commitment to democracy contributed to the conduct of what he described as a free and fair election in Osun State.

Referring to Tinubu as the “father of the nation,” Adeleke praised the President for allowing the electoral process to take its course without interference.

He said the visit was an opportunity to express his appreciation to the President and reaffirm his commitment to the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

Adeleke said: “Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr. President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy.

“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria.”
