PDP Breaks Silence: No Victor, No Vanquished In Zoning Battle – Wike’s Claims Dismissed
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that its decision to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South has nothing to do with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Arise News on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the move was aimed at strengthening the PDP and ensuring internal stability.
According to him, the decision was not about vindicating any individual but about upholding the party’s values and unity.
“No one individual has been vindicated. It is the PDP as a party that has proven itself. After the 2023 elections, we conducted a thorough review, identified gaps, and made adjustments. That is why Nigerians are now witnessing renewed energy and unity within our party,” Ologunagba said.
He stressed that zoning was consistent with the PDP’s founding principle of rotating the presidency between the North and South, and that the decision was supported by all organs of the party, including the PDP Governors’ Forum, the National Executive Committee (NEC), the Board of Trustees (BoT), and state chapters.
“The NEC resolved to maintain balance by retaining existing positions in the North and South while zoning the presidency to the South. It was about fairness and stability, not about glorifying anyone,” he added.
Reacting to claims by Senator Gabriel Suswan that the PDP was in “intensive care,” Ologunagba dismissed the notion, saying the party only faced challenges common to every organisation but had since “recalibrated” for the 2027 elections.
“The PDP was never in an ICU. Yes, we had challenges, but we have shown capacity to reorganise and manage our internal affairs during tough times,” he explained.
On members who worked against the party in 2023, Ologunagba said reconciliation was initially prioritised but disciplinary measures were now being enforced.
“Membership is voluntary but comes with obligations. Every member must now roll up their sleeves and work for the PDP. Warnings have been given, and compliance is expected. We want to look forward, not backward,” he noted.
He also dismissed Wike’s claim of being excluded from NEC meetings, insisting that invitations were sent to him directly and also published in national newspapers.
“Wike was invited as a NEC member. His office acknowledged receipt of the notice. To claim otherwise is simply untrue,” Ologunagba clarified.
