Wike, a former Rivers State governor, and several others were reportedly summoned by the party to face the committee due to accusations of undermining the PDP and its 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The allegations include working against the party during the 2023 elections.

The conflict arose when Wike and other former governors, including Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), clashed with Atiku over the former National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu’s refusal to step down for a southerner.

PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi confirmed that Wike and other accused members of the G-5 would be summoned to explain their actions. He emphasized that the formation of two committees—one for reconciliation and one for discipline—is intended to address these issues and maintain party unity.

A senior PDP member, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed that the NWC had submitted the reports to Ikimi’s committee, but Wike and others have not yet been formally invited. Both Ikimi and Eyitayo Jegede, the committee secretary, declined to comment when approached by *Sunday PUNCH*.

Wike’s ally, Senator Olaka Wogu, dismissed the reports of Wike’s invitation as speculation, while PDP NEC member Timothy Osadolor mentioned strong support within the party for potential disciplinary actions such as suspension or expulsion. However, Segun Sowunmi, a member of the reconciliation committee, advised caution, warning that mishandling the situation could lead to further internal conflict.
