Peter Obi Expresses Worry Over Government’s Financial Mismanagement....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has criticized the federal government for its financial mismanagement.

In a post on his X account on Monday, Obi argued that the government is misallocating funds to non-essential projects while neglecting crucial sectors of national importance.

Obi highlighted specific instances, pointing out the allocation of N6 billion and N4 billion for National Assembly car parks and recreational facilities, respectively, while the educational sector suffers from underfunding.

He emphasized that it is unacceptable for the global average tertiary school enrollment to exceed 55 percent, while Nigeria’s rate is below 15 percent.

Obi urged the government to cease financial indiscipline and adopt a more prudent approach by prioritizing resource allocation to critical areas of human and national development.

He stated: “As the giant of Africa, I remain concerned about our fiscal indiscipline as a nation. Consider our education sector, where the global average of secondary school enrollment is above 80 percent, yet in Nigeria, it is 28 percent.

“The global average of tertiary school enrollment is above 55 percent, while in Nigeria it is less than 15 percent. Meanwhile, we allocate N6 billion for the National Assembly car parks and N4 billion for recreational facilities.

“Only N1 billion is approved for the construction of hostels in 12 tertiary institutions. It is time to stop this financial indiscipline and embrace financial discipline by prioritizing resource allocation to critical areas of human and national development.”
