In a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Obi clarified that no such agreement had been reached with any political party. He called on all Nigerian political stakeholders to unite in 2027 with the goal of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he criticized for mismanaging the country’s resources.
Obi lamented the ongoing high levels of corruption in Nigeria, noting the escalating cost of governance and the rising public debt under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. He also accused government officials of reckless spending, citing frequent foreign travels as an example of wasteful use of public funds in 2024.
Furthermore, Obi expressed grave concern over the nation’s security situation, condemning the alarming rise in banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping that continues to cause unnecessary deaths across the country.
In a related development, NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, also rejected claims of a power-sharing agreement with PDP’s Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. Speaking to the BBC, Kwankwaso angrily refuted the report, calling it a lie, and stated he had heard that Atiku’s camp was spreading the false narrative. He reiterated that he had found peace after leaving the PDP for NNPP and was not involved in any such power-sharing arrangement.
