Peter Obi’s Campaign Fund Sparks Heated Exchange Between Bashir Ahmad And Aisha Yesufu
A former presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has taken issue with the well-known socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, regarding the campaign funds of Peter Obi during the previous general elections……..CONTINUE READING
Ahmad expressed bewilderment at Yesufu’s failure to disclose the financial statement for Obi’s presidential campaign. In October 2023, the Labour Party (LP) unveiled a website urging Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to contribute funds to the campaign. Obi, the party’s presidential candidate, also appealed for assistance in December 2022, providing bank account details on the platform then known as Twitter.
Despite these efforts, the public is still awaiting the release of the campaign’s financial statement, ten months after the election. Aisha Yesufu, a signatory to the Obi/Baba-Ahmed Campaign Organisation, had pledged in September 2023 to make the statement public after the conclusion of Obi’s petition at the Supreme Court.
Expressing his dissatisfaction on a social media platform on Thursday afternoon, Bashir, who unsuccessfully contested a House of Assembly seat in Kano State, tweeted, “It’s quite surprising that Aisha Yesufu, who consistently presents herself as a paragon of integrity, is now facing widespread calls to fulfill her own promises.”
He continued, “Despite her earlier commitment to disclose the financial statement for the Peter Obi presidential campaign immediately after the Supreme Court judgment, several months have passed, and there has been no communication from her.”
Bashir emphasized that the delay in releasing the statement diminishes its initial credibility and urgency. He urged Yesufu to uphold her promise and fulfill the expectations surrounding the disclosure of the campaign’s financial details.
