The Plateau State Government has announced its forthcoming imposition of restrictions on the movement of trucks, animals, and other entities within the Jos-Bukuru metropolis. This initiative is part of the government’s comprehensive strategy to alleviate congestion in the city center, as revealed by Arc. Hart Bankat, the General Manager of the Jos Metropolitan Development Board, during a press briefing in Jos, Plateau State.

The escalating population in Plateau State has given rise to an upsurge in vehicular traffic and unplanned construction, leading to congestion and safety concerns within urban areas. In response to these challenges and with the aim of fostering the sustainable development of the state, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has issued Executive Order No. 003, 2024.

Arc. Hart Bankat elucidated, “This executive order is designed to regulate building construction and vehicular traffic flow in Plateau State. According to the order, all new building projects must obtain the requisite permits and adhere to building codes and regulations. Unauthorized constructions will be subject to lawful demolition.”

He continued, “Additionally, the order seeks to optimize vehicular traffic through the implementation of traffic management measures, including designated parking spaces, traffic lights, and road signage. Stringent penalties, such as fines and vehicle impoundment, will be imposed on violators of traffic rules.”
