Political Hypocrisy Exposed! Kwankwaso Speaks On Rampant Party Defections After Victory

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has strongly criticised politicians who defect to rival parties after securing electoral victories through popular support.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at his Miller Road residence in Kano while welcoming a large group of defectors from Takai Local Government Area into the NNPP, Kwankwaso described such actions as the “greatest political sin.”
His remarks follow recent defections of prominent figures like Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila and Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, who left the NNPP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reflecting on the resilience of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Kwankwaso recalled its challenges in 2015, when some members joined with divisive intentions. “They tried to destabilise the movement, but thanks to God, we remained united,” he said.
He emphasized that each election cycle had offered valuable lessons. “Everyone saw what happened in 2019 and the most recent polls. They’ve taught us that our strength lies not in money, but in the people,” he said.
Kwankwaso criticised the practice of vote-buying, lamenting how some voters in Kano South were swayed by meagre handouts like ₦2,000 or food items. “The movement is about integrity and the common man—not financial inducement. If vote-selling had prevailed, NNPP wouldn’t have succeeded,” he stated.
He labelled post-election defections as the ultimate betrayal of voters’ trust. “There’s no greater political offense than turning your back on the people who voted for you, only to join the very forces they rejected. If voters had known your true intentions, they wouldn’t have supported you,” Kwankwaso added.
Issuing a stern warning, he said fighting the Kwankwasiyya movement is a dangerous miscalculation. “Anyone who tries to oppose this movement will eventually realise how unshakable it is,” he warned.
Kwankwaso praised the unity within the movement and its mission to empower ordinary Nigerians. “Whether or not one holds an office or contract, we are driven by shared purpose and gratitude. The poor now see clearly—and that awareness brought us here,” he noted.
He urged new members to mobilize support in their communities, stressing the NNPP’s commitment to uplifting the people. “This movement is for the people, by the people. We take pride in our purpose and remain focused on improving lives,” he concluded, congratulating the new defectors on joining the party.
