Associates of former President Goodluck Jonathan have stated that only the former Nigerian leader can definitively speak on his political future as discussions surrounding the 2027 general election continue.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The associates cautioned against individuals making declarations on Jonathan’s behalf without his explicit approval, stressing that unauthorized comments should not be mistaken for his official position.

Their reaction follows renewed speculation about Jonathan’s political plans after a media report quoted former presidential aide, Jude Imagwe, dismissing suggestions that the former president was considering a return to active electoral politics.

In a statement issued by Sam Presto, Coordinator of The Goodies Movement, a pro-Jonathan political group, the associates questioned whether Imagwe’s remarks reflected a personal opinion or an officially sanctioned position.

“Many supporters and stakeholders within the broader Jonathan political family are therefore asking a legitimate question: was he expressing a personal opinion, or was he conveying an officially authorised position?” the statement said.

The group maintained that only statements issued directly by Jonathan, his officially designated representatives, or recognised communication platforms should be regarded as an accurate reflection of his political stance.

“Only statements issued directly by him, through officially designated representatives, or via recognised communication channels should be regarded as definitive expressions of his political position,” the statement added.

The associates also urged media organisations and journalists to verify the authority of individuals claiming to speak on behalf of the former president before attributing political positions to him.

“The media also bears a responsibility in this regard. Journalists and media organisations should exercise caution before presenting individuals as speaking for political leaders without clearly establishing the basis of their authority.

“Any statement purporting to reflect the position of a former Head of State should be accompanied by clear evidence of authorisation and current representation,” the statement noted.

According to the group, any endorsement, denial, confirmation or speculation regarding Jonathan’s political ambitions should be treated as personal opinion unless it comes through officially authorised channels.

“Every endorsement, rejection, confirmation, denial, or speculation concerning his political future should be understood as the opinion of the individual expressing it, unless clearly backed by an official mandate.

“The Nigerian people deserve facts rather than assumptions, clarity rather than conjecture, and authentic representation rather than political guesswork,” the statement concluded.
