The immediate past Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, and the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Nasiru Gawuna, are reportedly preparing to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Their anticipated move follows the recent political shift involving former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.

Kwankwaso and Obi were seen in a viral video on Sunday receiving their NDC membership cards, confirming their formal entry into the party. The footage showed Kwankwaso being handed his card before Obi was also presented with his during the registration process.

The development came shortly after both politicians reportedly held a private meeting with key NDC figures at the Abuja residence of the party’s National Leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

This latest move is part of wider opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In separate interviews with Punch on Monday, Gwarzo’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, and a close associate of Gawuna, Ahmed Gogel, confirmed that both politicians would soon publicly declare their defection.

Shuaibu indicated that Gwarzo’s decision is closely linked to Kwankwaso’s political direction, saying, “It is unlikely that Kwankwaso would leave the ADC and Gwarzo would remain. He will make his position known soon.”

Gogel also disclosed that Gawuna has concluded plans to exit the ADC and join the emerging political bloc, noting that consultations with key stakeholders are already ongoing.

“He is engaging widely and aligning strategically. It is only a matter of time before he formally resigns from the ADC and joins the NDC,” he said.

According to him, the move is driven by the need to reposition politically and remain relevant ahead of the next election cycle, as shifting alliances continue to reshape the opposition landscape.
