President Bola Tinubu recently held a high-level meeting with representatives from the global energy conglomerate, ExxonMobil, in New York. The core message from the President was unequivocal: “Nigeria has never been more primed for business than it is now.”

Tapping into his extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, President Tinubu exuded confidence in managing and addressing the intricate challenges embedded within Nigeria’s energy industry. He articulated:
“The complex issues necessitate my direct oversight. Notwithstanding the plethora of responsibilities I shoulder, I am committed to personally steering the course to eradicate these barriers to job opportunities and wealth generation for our citizens. We’re intimately familiar with the industry, having been moulded by it. This equips us with a unique advantage to identify solutions. Our approach is pragmatic, and we are resolute in our problem-solving determination.”
ExxonMobil’s Forward-Looking Commitment
Liam Mallon, who heads Global Upstream Operations at ExxonMobil, acknowledged President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication towards the advancement of Nigeria.
Highlighting ExxonMobil’s future aspirations for Nigeria, Mallon promised a significant surge in oil production. He pledged an augmentation in production to nearly 40,000 barrels per day (bpd), marking this as a new phase of investment in Nigeria. Mallon added:
“Your assurance of collaboration with us has been validated by actions, as evidenced by the considerable progress since our last engagement. We’re scaling up our production capacity and are earnestly focusing on enhancing deepwater production. Your efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we aim to reciprocate in equal measure. The present circumstances are propitious. Your leadership is truly commendable. Thank you.”
