The statement dismissed Atiku’s assertion that the government’s policies led to increased cost of living pressures, asserting that recent cost of living indices demonstrate that Nigerians still enjoy the lowest cost of living in Africa. The Presidency contended that Atiku’s criticisms lack factual basis and characterized them as uninformed interventions on the economy and public concerns.

Describing Atiku’s comments as a new “hobby” for the former Vice President, the statement emphasized that President Tinubu and his team are diligently working to improve the country’s conditions, strengthen the economy, and enhance competitiveness. In contrast, Atiku and his associates are accused of engaging in baseless complaints.

The statement addressed Atiku’s critique of the government’s response to national challenges, highlighting that the former Vice President failed to present alternative policy options during his presidential campaign. It noted that both candidates agreed on crucial issues such as ending the fuel subsidy regime and fixing multiple exchange rates, differing only on the approach to national asset privatization.

President Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy from the outset and efforts to harmonize exchange rates were cited as examples of proactive economic measures. The statement underlined the administration’s commitment to ending arbitrage resulting from multiple exchange rates.

The Presidency urged Atiku to provide constructive solutions rather than resorting to political rhetoric. It refuted Atiku’s claims about the private sector shrinking and multinational companies leaving the country, asserting that these assertions lack factual support. The statement called on Atiku to acknowledge the positive policy trajectory of the Tinubu administration, recognized by reputable local and international agencies.

In addressing the economic challenges inherited by President Tinubu, the statement acknowledged a weak economy characterized by significant fiscal deficits, a low revenue base, high debts, and a considerable debt service burden. The Presidency argued that Tinubu faced the dilemma of reforming the economy to spur growth while balancing political considerations, ultimately choosing reforms to ensure the country’s survival and prosperity.

In conclusion, the statement urged Atiku to be honest about the economic realities inherited by President Tinubu and to offer substantive proposals instead of engaging in what it perceived as politically motivated criticisms.
