Reno Omokri, a vocal critic and public commentator, has expressed concerns over what he perceives as a delay by President Tinubu’s administration in rolling out a new minimum wage framework for Nigerians. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Omokri noted, “There are Nigerians who are in dire straits. Their salaries barely suffice, and many families grapple with the grim realities of malnutrition and stunted growth in their children.” While recognizing the role of palliatives, he argues they are mere temporary measures. “Palliatives are an ad-hoc solution. Nigerians need sustainable answers to the ever-growing menace of poverty,” he emphasized.
Commending President Tinubu’s handling of the political crisis in Niger, Omokri urged the President not to let international affairs detract him from his foremost responsibility – the welfare of Nigerians. He stressed, “Democracy in Niger must be restored, and I commend the President’s approach. However, our internal economic challenges should be addressed with equal intensity.”

While Omokri expressed support for the removal of fuel subsidies, acknowledging it as a “necessary sacrifice,” he pointed out that the resultant inflation, particularly in food prices, threatens to push Nigerians into a debilitating cost of living crisis.
In a clarion call to the President, Omokri asserted, “Nigerians can’t wait any longer. If need be, the National Assembly should be convened urgently, even if it means cutting their holiday short.” The crux of his message is clear: Nigerians urgently need a new, revised minimum wage to navigate the challenging economic waters.
