Dr. Mikail outlined several demands of the association, which include rejecting percentage salary payments for members on the GIFMIS platform and the immediate repayment of withheld parts of doctors’ salaries. He highlighted that salaries of affected members were recently reduced by 25 to 27 percent, amounting to ₦58,000 to ₦60,000, with additional salary arrears owed from 2021.
Despite economic challenges, Dr. Mikail criticized management for not providing valid reasons for these deductions. He disclosed that the management proposed to allocate ₦2 million monthly from overhead costs to settle accoutrement allowance arrears, amounting to only ₦5,000 per doctor monthly, far below the ₦100,000 owed to each member.
Dr. Mikail also emphasized that while over 60 percent of Federal Health Tertiary institutions in the North West zone have started paying arrears of accoutrement allowance, ABUTH has not yet done so. He pointed out that management suggested paying ₦5,000 instead of the due ₦25,000 per member.
Additionally, the association demands the implementation of a 25 percent CONMESS upward review for salaries of members on the GIFMIS platform.
