Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, has stated that Speaker Martins Amaewhule should be questioned regarding the destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ehie explained during an interview with Channels TV on Sunday that only the Speaker has access to the complex key after working hours, specifically from 6:00 pm onwards. He emphasized that once it is past 6 pm, only the Speaker, as the presiding officer, can access the complex, even during emergencies.
When asked whether this meant that Amaewhule should be held accountable for the incident, Ehie affirmed, “Yes, because he was the Speaker at that time and the only one who could access the complex after hours, especially on weekends.”
Responding to a question about the Supreme Court’s ruling and President Bola Tinubu’s statement that Governor Fubara was aware of the complex’s demolition, Ehie stated that, as a lawyer, he would not dispute the Supreme Court’s decision. However, he pointed out that former Governor (now FCT Minister) had previously noted that the Assembly Complex had become uninhabitable and no longer conducive for legislative business.
Ehie added that it was an appeal from Assembly members and staff themselves, expressing that the complex was no longer suitable for their lawmaking activities.
