The Rivers State House of Assembly has leveled accusations of dishonesty against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, threatening impeachment proceedings if constitutional breaches persist.

During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, Speaker Martin Amaewhule, accompanied by 26 assembly members, criticized the Governor for failing to uphold the Presidential Peace Accord voluntarily signed, alleging breaches without coercion.

Although they withdrew an impeachment notice out of respect for President Bola Tinubu and in hopes of a change, they warn of resuming proceedings if breaches continue.

In a detailed statement, they countered attacks on the House, surviving attempts to undermine its independence and integrity. Various groups, including former PDP figures, are accused of attempting to discredit the Assembly, aligning with political opponents in misguided strategies.

The Assembly questions the sincerity of newfound support for President Tinubu and Governor Fubara by those previously opposed, citing past hostilities during elections. They caution against trusting these alliances, suspecting ulterior motives aimed at undermining current leadership.

Ultimately, the Assembly asserts its commitment to upholding democratic principles and holding accountable those who attempt to manipulate the political landscape for personal gain.
