Rivers Government Replies Wike, Says Fubara Focused On Delivering Results
The Rivers State Government has stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains committed to governance and infrastructure development across the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The government made the clarification while reacting to recent remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who accused the governor of prioritising second-term politics over governance and the passage of the 2026 budget.
Wike, during a media chat at his Abuja residence on Wednesday, also alleged that Fubara had violated an agreement not to seek re-election after President Bola Tinubu intervened in the political crisis rocking Rivers State.
Responding to the allegations, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Onwuka Nzeshi, described the claims as inaccurate.
Speaking on Nigeria Info 92.3 FM in Port Harcourt on Friday, Nzeshi insisted that Governor Fubara has remained actively involved in supervising and executing projects across different parts of the state.
He said, “It is not correct to say that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has focused more on politics than governance.
“If anybody says that, it simply means the person is not on the ground. The governor has been moving round the state inspecting and executing projects.”
Nzeshi stressed that it was unfair to suggest the governor was already concentrating on the 2027 elections instead of governance.
He also dismissed claims that the administration had abandoned ongoing projects inherited from the previous government.
According to him, Fubara inherited 12 major road projects from the past administration, with nine of them now reportedly over 70 percent completed.
He added that major projects such as the Trans-Kalabari Road and the Port Harcourt Ring Road are also progressing steadily.
The governor’s aide urged residents to ignore attempts to undermine Fubara’s performance, insisting the administration remains committed to delivering democratic dividends.
He said, “Just last week, the governor visited project sites including the Creek Road Market and the Commissioner Quarters. He is doing the job he was elected to do.
“He has demonstrated commitment and consistency in ensuring projects inherited from the previous administration are completed rather than abandoned.
