According to reports by Arise News, the forum is now divided into rival camps following disagreements over leadership and political direction ahead of the 2027 elections.
Imo State Governor and current chairman of the forum, Hope Uzodinma, is said to have maintained that he remains the authentic leader of the PGF, alongside Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, who serves as his deputy.
However, another group within the forum has reportedly rallied around Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who are believed to be coordinating a separate bloc.
Although neither side has officially commented on the reported split, party insiders disclosed that tensions have been growing over control of the forum and strategic positioning ahead of the next general elections.
The reported division is expected to influence internal calculations within the APC, considering the strong influence governors wield within the party’s power structure.
Meanwhile, reports had also surfaced claiming that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, had emerged as the new chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, allegedly replacing Uzodinma after a closed-door meeting in Abuja on Thursday night.
The meeting reportedly took place shortly after Uzodinma represented APC governors during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms.
Sources quoted by Vanguard claimed that about 20 APC governors attended the meeting.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum has since denied reports suggesting that Uzodinma was removed as chairman.
In a statement issued on Friday, the forum’s Director General, Folorunso Aluko, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that no meeting or resolution was held to remove the Imo State governor from office.
According to the statement, the PGF secretariat has no record of any decision concerning Uzodinma’s removal and urged the public to disregard the claims.
