He made this commitment while addressing the press shortly after his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday. According to Ibas, his immediate priority is to restore law and order in Rivers State.
“I believe we all understand the circumstances that have led us here, and the President clearly outlined this in his broadcast. If the primary concern is maintaining law and order in the state, then my top priority is to work with all relevant stakeholders to ensure peace, security, order, and stability are restored for both the people and government of Rivers State, and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
Ibas, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021, was appointed by President Tinubu following his declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State due to the ongoing political crisis.
In his address, President Tinubu also suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial six-month period, as part of the efforts to restore peace and stability in the state.
