The lawmakers from Kogi State Senate and House of Representatives had visited Governor Yahaya Bello to convey their congratulations on the peaceful and credible conduct of the November 11 governorship election, pledging their loyalty to him and the incoming administration. However, after a successful discussion, the governor was shocked to learn of the harassment of some lawmakers as they departed from the Government House, leading him to order the swift arrest of the culprits.

Governor Bello instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter, emphasizing that the offenders should face the full consequences of the law. He expressed zero tolerance for hooliganism and indiscipline, directing the heads of security agencies to ensure justice is served promptly.

Meanwhile, Senator Isah Echocho, representing Kogi East in the National Assembly, recounted an attack by thugs inside the Government House immediately after a meeting with the governor. Senator Echocho, along with other All Progressives Congress (APC) federal lawmakers, had paid homage to the governor after the festive season. The thugs singled him out, accusing him of being responsible for APC’s poor performance in the last governorship election in Kogi East senatorial district.

Echocho, narrating the incident, explained that despite his efforts to campaign vigorously for APC in Kogi East, the people chose another candidate, leading to pockets of wins in specific local government areas and wards. He clarified that the attack occurred as they were leaving the Governor’s Office, with the thugs blaming him for the APC’s electoral setback. Fortunately, the police intervened, ensuring his safety inside his vehicle.
