Ndume had warned that the President’s alleged bias in appointments could backfire if not addressed, insisting his comments were in line with his constitutional responsibilities.

However, in a post on (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, fired back, accusing Ndume of conveniently ignoring the fact that two of his own kinsmen were recently appointed to top positions in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Onanuga described the senator as being “allergic to facts and addicted to theatrics,” adding that Ndume often dishes out unfounded criticisms only to be disproven by the facts.

He further stated that President Tinubu remains committed to inclusive governance that reflects Nigeria’s diversity—appointing individuals based on merit, competence, integrity, and geographical balance rather than tribal bias.

Onanuga wrote:
“Senator Ali Ndume’s latest TV tirade over alleged ‘lopsided appointments’ reeks of hypocrisy and selective outrage. While playing the moral watchdog, he failed to mention that two of his own people recently secured major appointments at NNPCL. If the President is so ‘tribal,’ how did Ndume’s kinsmen rise to such positions?

“Ndume’s repeated pattern of making shallow claims that collapse under scrutiny shows he’s more focused on creating sensational headlines than offering meaningful critique.

“President Tinubu is leading a government that includes every Nigerian, regardless of ethnicity or region. The goal is to build a united and prosperous country, and appointments are made purely on merit and national interest.

“We call on Senator Ndume to uphold a higher standard of public engagement. Spreading misinformation and baseless accusations only does a disservice to Nigeria, and is unbecoming of a sitting senator.”
