In a statement announcing his resignation, Kofarmata said he could no longer serve in an administration that, in his view, had abandoned the principles and ideology that brought it to power.
He also reaffirmed his loyalty to the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Kofarmata wrote: “I hereby formally resign my appointment as Commissioner and member of the Kano State Executive Council. I took this decision in good faith because I cannot continue to work under a government that has deviated from the ideology that brought it into office.
“I express my appreciation to the national leader of the NNPP, Engr. Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and all those who supported us throughout this journey. Alhamdulillah.”
His resignation comes amid political realignments in Kano State following Governor Yusuf’s decision to leave the NNPP and sever ties with Kwankwaso in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has warned supporters of Governor Yusuf against making provocative statements or directing insults at Kwankwaso.
The caution was issued by the Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, Kano, Bature Tofa, during a motorcycle distribution programme held at the Open Space Theatre, Government House.
Tofa stressed that the government would not tolerate indiscipline or disrespect towards Kwankwaso, describing him as a key political figure whose influence and contributions to Kano politics remain significant despite recent political developments.
