The protesters assembled at Suleja Junction on the busy Kaduna-Suleja-Abuja highway, aiming to breach the largest market in the state. However, soldiers quickly intervened, dispersing the crowd and preventing any violence or vandalism.

The protest, which began in Suleja Local Government Area, has been the focal point of unrest in Niger State. The initial day of protests turned violent, resulting in six deaths and numerous injuries, according to reports from the protesters.

Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun refuted claims of fatalities, asserting that no protesters were killed on August 1. He stated that while there was significant vandalism and damage to property, including the Tafa LGA Secretariat, the police used minimal force, leading to only minor injuries among some protesters.

In a separate incident, protesters attempted to block the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway in Sabon Wuse, Tafa Local Government Area, but were thwarted by military forces and subsequently dispersed.

Mohammed Idris, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Tafa constituency, voiced concerns over the increasing presence of miscreants in the area. He warned that if unchecked, these activities could impact Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Idris highlighted the challenges faced by residents due to criminal activities and urged the government to focus on the region to address these issues.
