One of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Obiora Okonkwo, has rejected claims that President Bola Tinubu and the opposition party in the state had agreed to support Governor Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for a second term in exchange for his backing in the President’s 2027 reelection bid.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okonkwo made this statement on Tuesday after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms.

The APC chieftain also labeled Soludo’s claims of supporting the APC and Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election as false, asserting that the Governor acted in his own interest rather than working for the President.

He argued that if Soludo had truly supported Tinubu, the President would have at least secured the constitutional 25% of votes in Anambra, but Soludo’s actions led to less than 1%.

Okonkwo pointed out that Anambra has been under APGA rule for over two decades, with each election seeing the Governor promise to deliver 25% of the vote for the APC presidential candidate, yet failing to meet even 1%.

He said, “This same person is once again seeking favor from the party in Abuja. He has shown in the past that he does not truly support the party. That claim is fraudulent. There is no payback for him, but the people of Anambra will hold him accountable for bad governance.”

“Soludo claims he worked for Mr. President during the elections, but in reality, he worked for himself. We have credible information, including a letter from the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to him, inviting him to meet with the President during his campaign in Anambra. The letter was sent to the state chairman and secretary, but despite multiple attempts, Soludo intentionally refused to meet with the President, even missing out on a handshake with him.”

Okonkwo further criticized the idea of Soludo benefiting from APC support, stating that it was like “plucking your eyes and giving them to him to see” given that Soludo failed to deliver the promised 25% of the vote.

“Our party is led by experienced politicians who won’t fall for APGA’s tricks anymore. Our President is a true party man who understands that he cannot sabotage the party or its candidate. We’ve heard the stories before, but the message to Soludo is clear: we’re not falling for that APGA gimmick. Anambra is ready to connect with the centre, which will make it easier for APC to gain more ground in the state,” he concluded.
