According to LIB, the tragic incident occurred when the deceased was shot by a local hunter at Prince Eniola’s residence in Ejigbo town, shortly after attending the 50th Coronation Anniversary of the monarch. Dr. Adeoriokin was swiftly taken to a private hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Yemisi Opalola, disclosed that Prince Oyeyode had instructed one of his civilian guards, Hammed Abdul Jelili, to test his double-barrel shotgun. Unfortunately, the guard mistakenly aimed at the victim, leading to his untimely demise.

In an official statement, SP Opalola stated, “The Osun State police is using this medium to inform the general public that the Command is aware of the incident of shooting that occurred at Ejigbo which led to the death of one Dr. Richard AdeoriOkin.” The incident transpired on January 27, 2024, around 9:48 pm, following the monarch’s coronation anniversary.

The statement continued, “Prince Eniola Oyeyode, who gave the order to his civilian guard to fire the gun, has been arrested and detained.” The Commissioner of Police, CP Bzigu Dali Kwazhi, appealed to the public, especially Ejigbo residents, to remain calm as investigations into the matter progress.
