Among the notable figures offering insights into the security situation were Brigadier-General Idada Ikponmwen (retd.), former Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army; King Bubaraye Dakolo, a UK-trained security expert and traditional ruler; Chief Emma Ejiofor, former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS); and retired DIG Udom Ekpoudom.

Ikponmwen, speaking on the issue, highlighted the importance of addressing corruption within the country, stating that corruption undermines security efforts and erodes public trust in the government. He emphasized the need for a committed government with the political will to tackle corruption and improve the overall security structure.

HRM King Bubaraye Dakolo echoed these sentiments, connecting security challenges to corruption and injustice in the Niger Delta region. He emphasized the importance of a well-trained and equipped police force, urging the federal government to prioritize the welfare of security personnel.

Former DSS Director, Chief Emma Ejiofor, proposed solutions such as motivation through incentives and improved monthly salaries for security agencies. He also stressed the importance of merit-based appointments for heads of agencies, advocating for a strengthened inter-agency liaison.

Dr. Ovie, a top security expert, called for decisive action against political leaders providing cover for criminals, urging the government to address the issue head-on. He emphasized the need for honesty in the fight against crime and the importance of allowing security operatives to carry out their duties without hindrance.

Retired DIG Udom Ekpoudom recommended appointing Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) based on merit, drawing attention to the importance of experience in handling security matters. He also advocated for adequate funding and training of the police force, pointing out the necessity of establishing state police to address the country’s diverse security challenges.

Rekpene Bassey emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering, suggesting investments in drones, forensic materials, and advanced training for security personnel. He called for a world-standard remuneration scheme to motivate and retain security personnel.

Other experts, including retired DIG Azubuko Udah and retired DIG Innocent Nwobodo, emphasized the need for collaboration among security agencies, adequate funding, and training. They highlighted the role of community policing in addressing specific security challenges in different regions.

In conclusion, the experts collectively underscored the imperative of addressing corruption, improving the welfare of security personnel, and fostering collaboration among the people, security agencies.
